The Good Path
This ancient wisdom applies to your business, today
It ain’t easy.
It is not easy to be a small business owner, and it is even more difficult to run a successful business. If you are looking for freedom and low stress, you won’t find it in this arena.
A business owner’s mind is always thinking about the business. When wondering “why am I even doing all of this?” I like to turn to the ancient wisdom.
‘Tis the season, anyway…
Whether or not you know his story and his life, and regardless of your spiritual beliefs, it’s agreed upon by most of the world that Jesus Christ was a remarkable teacher. He spoke bluntly when needed, but most of the time he crafted his storytelling with outside-the-box perspectives woven with plenty of nuance.
(This was quintessential first-century Rabbi style – avoid a direct answer, rather, tell a story that creates space for curiosity and discussion.)
Thousands of years later, we are still discussing the true meaning behind his stories.
For example…
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it (Matthew 7:13-14, NIV).
Many people think that Jesus is speaking about eternity here, because he often did, but much more often he spoke to living in the present moment.
We desire the path of least resistance.
Water does too. So do wild animals. This mentality of seeking the easiest path is hard-wired into every aspect of our world. It’s all around us, and laziness is a default setting.
But the difficult path – the narrow road with the small gate – is the one worth striving for. That is where the reward is. It’s where the remarkable happens.
Profit Hikers take the hard path.
It’s the good way, but it’s also the way that is stacked with obstacles, risk, and difficulty. Some will try and then give up to go right back to the broad path.
