Small Change, Big Liftoff
Get inspired by this story of a change in ounces that has saved millions
In 2018, Delta Airlines made one simple change to their business that saved millions of dollars per year.
As you can imagine, the cost of jet fuel is one of the biggest drivers in an airline’s ability to make money. Someone in the organization took a creative approach to reducing costs by reducing weight.
One of the decisions was to reduce the weight of the in-flight magazine by 1 ounce simply by printing on lighter paper.
This change resulted in 11 pounds of weight savings on a Boeing 737 plane.
This may not sound like much, but with thousands of flights per day and over a million per year, it quickly adds up.
According to their calculations, this one simple change now saves 170,000 gallons of fuel every year, which results in hundreds of thousands of dollars to the bottom line.
What is one simple change you can make today, that will have a massive impact?
