Shedding Overhead
What one man's life-changing pivot can mean for your business
My favorite example of rethinking your entire business is a shed business that I learned about.
The owner of the business had been building sheds for years and decided to get out of the day-to-day of construction life. The shed builder had years of knowledge, experience, and business tools that he decided to share with others.
So he created a “business in a box” concept, where any handyman can buy into his program and become a shed builder in their own town.
Buyers get access to all of his detailed building plans, with CAD drawings, cut sheets and assembly instructions. They also get helpful tools like spreadsheets that help you estimate your costs and price a building based on today’s material costs.
On top of this, he created a training video series that walks the viewer through every aspect of owning and running a successful shed building business.
He’s still in the shed business, but now instead of building sheds for homeowners, he is selling information to other shed builders.
He leveraged his years of sweat and toil into a beautiful info product that he created one time and can sell infinitely. This is a fantastic “Picks and Axes” business.
Can you become a business-in-a-box?
