Pandemic Pivots
Forcing a reboot actually ignited business creativity
Weird times.
Social distancing, playoffs in the bubble, hand sani on every keychain, every-other-row on the rollercoasters…
For all its ups and downs, 2020 was a lightning bolt of creativity, waking us from our sleepy routines. This moment in time launched small businesses everywhere from the status quo to an “innovate or die” mentality.
In my town, local bars farmed out their employees for lawn care and trashcan cleaning, just to keep them employed.
Restaurants sold raw materials, like flour and toilet paper that their customers couldn’t find on the shelves at grocery stores. This also kept their suppliers alive.
I remember reading one story about a commercial toilet paper manufacturing plant that opened up a retail drive through.
Restaurants that held their pride in their fine dining experience and high level of service turned into drive-throughs in order to continue serving their customers and helping to keep their suppliers in business.
Today, it’s not do-or-die. But what if it was?
Can your cost centers actually become profit centers?
