Are You Lonely?
You don't need to face your business on your own
If you’re feeling lonely… you’re not alone.
It is perfectly normal to feel isolated when you’re running a business.
Your corporate-working friends don’t get you. Your family might be cheering you on, but can’t help with tactics. You don’t want to share too much with competitors, and you definitely don’t want to expose your headaches and heartaches to your employees.
However, there is a way to combat this feeling.
Don’t overlook the perks of companionship in a group hike.
Loneliness is an epidemic.
The antidote to the epidemic is community among your peers.
A study performed by BYU professor of psychology and neuroscience Julianne Holt-Lunstad, PhD found that “loneliness and social isolation are twice as harmful to physical and mental health as obesity”.
That’s not good, my friend.
Your body and mind need you to be social.
According to Forbes nearly 30% of business owners and the self-employed regard loneliness as a notable problem in their life.
If you are in that camp then it’s up to you to do something about it.
Start with a group hike.
Invite a few business-owning peers to meet up for beverages of choice once a month. Pick a topic to discuss, or just go around the table and talk about challenges you’re all facing in that moment.
I have been a part of several groups like this over the years. What starts as a networking group or a think-tank often turns into group therapy, because business is challenging.
Trust me: it’s better together.
